Travel Bag, Ipad Bag Pattern, Tablet Bag Pattern, The Tech Tote PDF Sewing Pattern
This is a digital file
When I received an iPad, my employer gave me an ugly brown bag to carry it around in. The pockets were too small to hold the charger. I didn't know where to put my stylus...or a note pad...or my phone...or lip balm. So I went to work designing a tote to carry my iPad that would hold everything I needed and that looked good.
First... I used my "no raw edge" Inside-Out Zippered Gusset technique that creates a zippered gusset with no raw edges. So there is no trying to sew bias tape to the inside to hide ugly edges - and no "birthing" the bag. The pattern includes a link to a video tutorial for this technique.
Secondly, there are two main zippered compartments - the main bag (12" x 10" x 2") that fits an iPad with room to spare and has two pockets. And an 8" x 6" x 1" accessory pocket that holds cords, stylus, pens, lip balm, etc. and includes a phone pocket.
Third, the adjustable strap makes sizing easy. The handle is an added feature that allows for easy carrying.
This project involves cutting some bias strips and an unconventional zipper technique. It's not complicated, but there are a lot of pieces. Although it's worth it, make sure that you are up for the challenge!
All of this is cut with a rotary cutter and ruler (no pattern pieces). I provide a fabric layout diagram along with written cutting directions. The entire pattern includes 20 pages of instructions along with illustrations (there are supplemental photographs to help you). The file includes the PDF pattern and a supplemental tutorial for making double fold bias tape (for the zipper). I also provide a link to a YouTube video to help you with the zipper.
What one pattern tester wrote about the pattern: "All other directions and pieces were correct and easy to follow..."
Please read the entire pattern a few times and practice before beginning. You'll be doing a lot of marking, so it's easiest to see on lighter fabric (I made a black one...and...yikes...I couldn't see any of my marks!).
If you made my Smartphone eXtra, this goes together the same way!

On occasion, my cat(s) hang out with me. Although I keep things clean/neat, a stray cat hair might show up on your pillow cover and/or bag tag. But other than that, there are no funky smells or weird things to worry about.
