Item details

These charming snake head beads in carved bone come as an earring pair, and are undrilled so they can be bezel set to hang as drops.

However, if you want them drilled, you'll find some options here -

Each head is carved all the way around as shown in my photos, and is beautifully textured.

Overall, they're about an inch long - just shy of 30mm. The neck is about 6mm in length, and flat at the end.

PayPal is my preferred method of payment if it it's possible and convenient for you.

Thickness: Approx 7mm
Weight: Approx 4 grams
Pieces per pack: 2 - earring pair
Material: Bovine bone - cow bone - carved all around, undrilled, flat at the end of the neck.

Shipping: These items will ship from Bali, Indonesia, via Pos Indonesia registered mail with a tracking number, and you will almost certainly have to sign for the package on delivery. The beads will be sent in a padded post pack to protect them in transit, and the cost of the pack is included in the shipping fee. I generally ship more quickly than the 3-5 days mentioned in my shipping profile. Please see my shop and shipping policies for more important details.

Antaboga is the world serpent of traditional pre-Islamic Javanese mythology. The name is derived from the Sanskrit term ananta (endless) and boga (food, possession or wealth), so can be translated as "endless food and/or wealth".

With the rise of Islam and the fall of the Hindu Majapahit Kingdom on the Indonesian island of Java, neighbouring Bali became the center of Indonesian Hinduism.

Antaboga is the central figure of creation mythology, and is believed to have been the only thing in existence at the beginning of time.

Through meditation, Antaboga created Bedawang, a giant turtle who carries the world on its back, and whose restless stirrings cause earthquakes.

On the turtle's shell lay two coiled snakes and the Black Stone, a lid to a cave - the Underworld.

All other creations sprang from Bedawang.

According to Sundanese myth, Antaboga was also responsible for the birth of Dewi Sri, the rice goddess of Java and Bali. She is often associated with the rice paddy snake (ular sawah).

In another Hindu belief, Rahu is a severed head of an asura (mythological lord being), that swallows the sun causing eclipses.

Rahu is depicted in art as a serpent with no body riding a chariot drawn by eight black horses.

"Om Bhram Bhreem Bhroum Sah Rahave Namah" ~ Mantra associated with Rahu
