This gorgeous cabochon was crafted out of a piece of Royston Turquoise. Royston Turquoise comes from the Royston District near Tonopah, Nevada. One really amazing thing about the Royston Turquoise Mine, is that from April until October the mine actually offers mine tours. On these mine tours they take you to the Royston Turquoise Mine, give you a small tour, and then they allow you to dig through their tailing piles and bring some turquoise home with you! This past week me, my brother, and my father decided that it sounded like an incredible adventure so we went Tonopah, Nevada and participated in the mine tour! It was an unbelievable experience and we were lucky enough to find some stunning rough Royston Turquoise! We just returned late last night and this is the very first cabochon we cut and polished, this piece was hand-collected by us! This piece has an absolutely wonderful appearance, the right half of this stone is dominated by swirls of deep bluish-green turquoise. Near the base of this piece the turquoise shifts to a dazzling moss-green color. The left half of this stone is dominated by a large blast of fantastic, creamy dark brown quartz matrix. I absolutely love how well the beautiful bluish-green turquoise and creamy dark brown matrix compliment each other! When I turn this stone sideways it reminds of soothing ocean waves breaking onto the sandy beachfront. There are several small vugs that are slightly exposed on the face of this piece. This stone has not been backed or stabilized but it is very sturdy and will be perfect to set! My favorite part about this Royston Turquoise cabochon is that we can honestly say that we mined it, cut it, and polished it ourselves.

This cabochon was free-formed by my father and I.

Metaphysical: Turquoise is an ancient healing stone, it is believed to aid in healing damaged emotions, it aids in abolishing grief, and it is said to protect the wearer of the stone from harm.
