Item details

This is a 60+ piece DIY kit replicating Quicksilver's Stereobelt from "Days of Future Past" - built referencing screengrabs, VFX reels and original concept art by Henry Fong.

NEW ULTIMATE v3 - now with faux metal laser cut trim - looks like real metal! Real screws - look even cooler and allow units to be opened up!

INCLUDES: Decals (not pre-cut), Belt Clips, 1/4" headphone jack, 1/4" headphone plug
Cassette Tape Optional
Belt NOT included

Parts are 3D printed and laser cut and assemble into the two primary Stereobelt units and battery packs which clip to a belt that you supply. It has a real 1/4" headphone jack (headphones not included) and holds a cassette tape (optional). The Stereobelt is non-functional - none of the knobs, switches or sliders move. However, the units are hollow and your own electronics can be installed if desired.

The Stereobelt is 3D printed in strong PLA (biodegradable) plastic and assembles with real hardware and glue. The parts are printed in silver, black and brown and don't need painted but they CAN be for an even nicer finish.

Simple tools are needed such as a screwdriver, x-acto knife, emery board (nail file) and super glue - allen wrenches for the screws are already included. Some minor trimming may be needed for some parts. Please be aware that you will be able to see the layers of the 3D print and some minor blemishes and discolorations are to be expected. Surfaces will have a textured look and feel which can be seen in the pictures.

Assembly is easy, but I encourage you to take a look at the fully-illustrated assembly directions to see what is involved. Included in the directions are links for reference pictures, recommended belt and headphones to complete your costume and a history of the Stereobelt. Assembly Directions:

PLEASE NOTE:
- Kit includes: 60+ unpainted parts to build side units and battery packs with belt clips
- Laser cut faux metal trim looks like real metal
- Assembles with real socket head screws - easy to open back up
- Allen wrenches for screws are included
- Headphones NOT included but kit DOES include the 1/4" headphone jack and plug (for adding to headphones of your choice)
- Kit uses movie-accurate 1/4" headphone jack NOT the typical 1/8" size found on most devices
- Decal sheet - includes duplicates of all decals - NOT pre-cut - you must cut them out yourself

- Stereobelt is non-functional and unpainted.
- Belt is not included - see assembly directions for recommendation
- Any cassette tape should fit in unit or order one with your kit
- Pictures # 1 show Stereobelt with painted details such as the buttons and transport symbols

FAQs

3D printed objects are made by 'slicing' a digital model into many thin layers. These slices are sent to a printer that 'draws' each layer by extruding plastic through a hot nozzle.

There are a lot of different materials available now but the two most common are ABS (LEGO plastic) and PLA (biodegradable plastic) which is what Charlesworth Dynamics uses.

While the 3D prints aren't hazardous, they are not food, dishwasher or microwave safe.

They are very strong, but will break just like any plastic item if abused.

3D prints are very strong if printed properly but will break just like any plastic item if abused. Since the object is printed in layers, they will have a slightly ridged texture to them unlike a injection molded object. There is usually a 'zipper' which is a slight vertical seam that indicates where each new layer starts. They may have slight defects or blemishes and the bottom which adheres to the print bed may have some discoloration. Kit pieces may need minor clean up or trimming to fit together. This is typical of most 3D prints.

Yes, you can sand and paint 3D prints like a normal plastic model. You can even use products like Bondo Glazing and Spotting putty to minimize and smooth the 3D printed texture. Make sure to use a plastic-friendly paint.

On occasion I will also build items out of 'real' parts and hardware - typically I use vintage Film & TV equipment parts. I have made lamps out of old lenses and jewelry out of old camera parts. Keep in mind that these are all used parts and will show their wear and tear and age - it's part of their charm.
