Item details

This listing is for the download of a PDF sewing pattern to make a quilted and lined English saddle carry bag. It is NOT for a physical paper pattern. The bag unzips all around and has an adjustable and detachable shoulder strap.

The bags in the photos were sewn by customers and are not for sale. The black bag and the turquoise bag sitting on top of the western bag were made using this pattern. The turquoise bags were sewn on an industrial machine. A pattern for the quilted western saddle carry bag is available in this shop.

The PDF file includes instructions illustrated with diagrams and the bag pattern piece. Download the file using Adobe Reader and print out the pages using 8 1/2" by 11" or A4 paper.

The recommended fabric is heavier weight coated nylon Cordura™ but any sturdy and water resistant fabric such as canvas can be used. Consider how your sewing machine will handle all of the layers when purchasing materials and notions. For the lining use high-count nylon taffeta or something simlar. Various weights of quilt batting can be used depending upon how much padding you desire and what your sewing machine can handle. The edge binding should be at least 1 1/2” wide and can be fold-over braid, twill tape, regular seam binding, or you can make your own bias tape from nylon fabric. Where the instructions refer to tape, use nylon or polypropylene webbing or some other sturdy tape. The coil zipper tape and zipper pulls can be purchased from www.therainshed.com or www.seattlefabrics.com.

2 3/4 YDS of 45” fabric OR 1 7/8 YDS of 60” fabric, 2 3/4 YDS of 45” lining OR 1 7/8 YDS of 60” lining, 2 3/4 YDS of 45” batting, 9 YDS of edge binding, 3 1/2 YDS of 2” tape or webbing, 4 YDS of #8 or #10 coil zipper tape, two non-locking reversible zipper pulls to match zipper tape, two 2” D-rings, two 2” snap hooks, one 2” slider, thread, large flat surface such as cutting board.
