Item details

Dating back to the Vikings, lucets have been used for braiding cords and trims. Using one or more cords, many useful and pretty variations can be created. Beads and bobbles may also be added, as well as loops for buttons. If you have grey hair, you may remember this from your childhood when it was taught as "hairpin lace". Yes, it can be done on a large hairpin. Anything with the right Y shape to it can be used!

These lucets are handcrafted by Jamie and made to fit the hand. The horns are gently curved so that cords are held on the lucet, but can be easily moved off hook. It's important to find the lucet that speaks to you and fits your style of cording. Some have handles, some do not. Some have holes to run the finished cord through, some do not. Whatever your preference, if it isn't in stock, Jamie can make one to your specifications.

WOOD: Tulipwood
OIL: Walnut oil,

Bocote is a South American wood. When freshly cut, it is yellowish with very dark stripes in the grain. It tends to darken with age, but retains the wonderful stripey grain. As you handle and work with it, you may smell dill pickles - that's the wood! And as you work with it, the oils will maintain that beautiful grain.

Lucets are also called: Lucette, lutal or chain fork. Some Scandavian names for this tool are: Tvinningsben, snoddgaffel, knytgaffel or slynggaffel

Additional policies

Cocobolo is now on the restricted woods list. It was one of the woods we loved the most, but we will not be able to buy it anymore. Unless we already have it, we won't be offering it. Please keep this in mind while shopping elsewhere, too. Responsible craftsmen will not offer a restricted wood item unless they already have that wood in stock. Ask your craftsman when they bought the wood and be a responsible world citizen. Over-harvesting results in the loss forever - wood, fish, birds, just to name a few things.
