Item details

SHAWL KNITTING PATTERN PDF: Inspired by the splendid apple orchards of Upstate, New York, the Heirloom Cultivar Shawl is an asymmetric knit shawl featuring an apple tree branch inner border along one side paired with a wide basket weave border along both sides. A plain stockinette body allows attention to remain focused on these lovely border stitches. Worked in a sport weight yarn, it is perfect for keeping the autumn chill from your shoulders.

Producing a generously sized shawl as written, this knitting pattern is also easily customized for additional sizes by working more or fewer repeats of the pattern stitch.

Gauge is not critical, but keep in mind that altering the size or working with a different gauge and/or yarn will change your yarn requirements as well as your finished dimensions. Please make sure you have sufficient yarn! Shawl is also adaptable to being worked in different yarn weights.

The sample pictured was knit in Quince and Co’s beautiful ‘Apricot’ colorway.

The pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit to reduce the potential for error.

SIZE

Finished, blocked shawl measures approx 64” (163 cm) long at neck edge and approx 29” (74 cm) in depth at offset point. Bottom edges measure approx 39” (99 cm) and 51” (130 cm) respectively.

GAUGE

20 sts/31 rows to 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch, blocked.

INSTRUCTIONS

The pattern is fully charted, but also includes complete written directions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary to work this pattern. Includes complete row by row stitch counts.

Blocking is especially essential for a successful finished project with this pattern.

YARN NOTES

A sport weight yarn with good stitch definition and little to no halo is recommended. Slight tonals work well, but highly variegated yarn will distract from the lace pattern.

You will also need:
Tapestry/blunt yarn needle
Stitch markers (2)
T-pins

Gorgeous design and very clear, well-written instructions. There are both line-by-line written instructions and charts. As an nice added extra the pattern contains a stitch count for each row. The Intermediate rating appears appropriate for the design. I can't wait to start knitting this. Thank you!
