This bracket is made to mount directly to the 2X4 wooden studs inside your wall before the Sheetrock goes up. By mounting above, as well as below the horizontal piece, this prevents any type of twisting of the horizontal piece. After the bracket is mounted you can cover the wall with the finish board of your choice.
How to Determine The Size Bracket You Will Need:
When measuring for length remember the horizontal piece is measured tip to tip. Remember to also include the part of the brace that will be inside of the wall [usually about 3 inches]. For example if you have a 12 inch wide shelf you would stay 2-3 inches from the outer edge, plus the 3 inches inside the wall. Therefore, 12 inches minus 2 inches plus 3 inches equals a 13 inch self bracket.
How to Determine the Bracket Angle:
The vertical angle placement is determined by which side of the wall stud you are placing the bracket on {you are looking directly at the wall stud}. For example, If you are mounting to the left side of the wall stud you will need a right angled bracket, if you are mounting to the right hand side of the wall stud you will need a left angled bracket. We recommend hitting each of your 2x4 studs for maximum protection. *Bracket shown in above pictures is a left angle bracket.
Not sure what angle? We now offer a universal angle bracket! This bracket can be installed on either side of the stud. The only difference is this universal angle has a blunt end instead of a 45 degree angled end.

Length.... [see listing] This is the total length of the horizontal piece of the bracket from tip to tip. [Remember that approximately 3 inches will be inside the wall]

Vertical Length.... 11 inches [5.25 inches above horizontal piece and 5.25 inches below horizontal piece]

Steel is a natural material. When welding it together some “pull” will naturally happen. As with all construction, there are no perfect lines or angles. Though we do everything we can to make sure the brackets are as perfect as they can be without compromising the integrity of the steel’s strength, some brackets may not be a perfect line, perfect angle or perfectly level.
