This is a digital file
This listing is for a PDF reproduction of the very rare Weldon's Modern Bride booklet, which was part of their series of transfer catalogs. (The original copy of this book was in very rough condition, so it has been carefully digitally restored; the original pages were black and white, so I have attempted to retain their fine detail--please see photos above. It is undated, but the fashions and illustration style place it during the 1930s. My guess is 1932-1935.)
Please note that page 3-4, which possibly contained information about the transfer designs featured on the cover, are missing. This PDF contains 16 pages of exquisite fashion illustration and early 1930s design. This booklet includes no actual patterns, but does contain a pattern diagram and detailed sewing instructions for the beautiful wedding dress and bolero featured on the cover, which an experienced seamstress could use to replicate this design. This was a catalog of patterns available for:
-lingerie for the bridal trousseau
It also contains vintage advertisements, including one for a booklet on birth control, which is very daring for the era. There is an article on wedding traditions (something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue appears here!) and the shifting trends in courtship and marriage of the time. It provides a fascinating glimpse into the bridal traditions of the time period. This book would be great for fashion inspiration, design inspiration and domestic history research.
