These faded blue antique Venetian seed beads are possibly the most unique of all the heirloom Italian glass beads still available for sale today. Mysteriously labelled "Old Sioux Blue", they may have been manufactured for trade between European settlers and American Indians in the late 1800's.
You receive 0.4 ounces - over 500 - 1x2mm, tiny rondele-shaped, antique Venetian glass seed beads in a soft, faded, light denim blue, with worn looking, smooth surfaces and small, slightly irregular 0.5mm (approx.) often-sandy, beading holes.
I assign the term "rare" to my antique seed beads that are very low in my stock and forever sold out everywhere else. These are the most desirable, most limited, most collectible vintage-to-antique seed beads still available today.
Please see dime and cm ruler in last photo for visual sizing. Sizes and bead count are approximate.
Expect quick shipping - I typically pack your order the day that I get it, and ship the next day. Super fast shipping from my hands to yours!
Due to their understated patina, unique "life-saver" shape, and uniform size, these are the best seed beads for both contemporary projects including jewelry making, applique, and bead weaving ( both on and off-loom ),
and old-time reenactment pieces such as Native American medicine bags and "Mountain Men"-style historic reenactment costumes.
Made in Murano, Italy, about 100 years ago, these venerable old blue seed beads never left their warehouse for circulation. I call them "floor sweepings" due to the amount of sand, grit, and thread you might find in the mix, as if someone quickly swept the factory floor at the end of the day, and brushed them into a bag...a century ago.

Some Venetian seed bead history:
These beads were made by the Societa Veneziana Conterie, a consortium of 16 independent Venetian bead makers that joined together from 1898-1992 and created glass products, in a huge brick factory on the island of Murano, Italy.
The beads were hugely popular world-wide, especially in the 1920's and 30's, yet the Societa became comfortable after years of prosperity and failed to prepare for the inevitable change in tastes of today's consumer and the rising costs of energy, transportation and labor.
They shut down in 1992, selling 7 tons of antique bead inventory.
I have had the huge privilege of locating and purchasing a small cache of these beads, which EthnicBeadShop is making available to you for a limited time. Enjoy!
