This fabric patch measures 7 1/8" x 7". It is a dye sublimation transfer. Dye sublimation is an extremely durable textile printing process which prints dyes onto polyester fabric. I've transferred these prints onto 100% recycled pop bottle polyester using a heat press. I've backed the fabric with Wonder Under, fabric adhesive so that you may iron the patch on and sew the edges easily. These patches are not fully iron on. The adhesive backing is for positioning only and they need to be sewn or pinned in order to stay on whatever item you choose. The patch is totally machine washable and is exceptionally durable. Can be appliqued onto a tee shirt, jacket, bag, hat, pants, wall hanging, altar cloth, quilt....it's up to your imagination.
Tulsi is a very sacred plant in India and Tulsi Basil is also an excellent medicinal plant. I was using a tincture of Tulsi as an overall tonic at the time that I made this drawing. It came to me as I was conceiving this piece to make the mandala as a process of honoring this plant who's healing properties was coursing through my bloodstream...the creation of the art was a means of expressing gratitude to the plant. The original was drawn with pencils and pen and ink on watercolor paper.
