Oregon Sunstone Marquise Cut Gemstone Measures 11 x 6 mm And Weighs 1.60 Carats
Sunstone is the official gemstone for the state of Oregon.
Radiating with the power of eternal light, sunstone has been coveted since antiquity for its ability to guide its wearer through the journey of life. Also known as aventurine feldspar or heliolite, the name comes to us the from Greek "helios", for "sun", and "lithos", for "stone".
Sunstone is a member of the plagioclase feldspar group of minerals and occurs in the compositional range of oligoclase, labradorite, and andesine. Orthoclase sunstones are also known.
Sunstone has a beautiful, glittering sunlight effect as a result of its tiny metallic inclusions. The microscopic copper or hematite inclusions causes a sparkling feature as thousands of these invisible particles playfully interact with the light, an effect known to gemmologists as "aventurescence". Many sunstones are cut "en cabochon" to display this phenomenon but some may also be faceted (as is the case with this stone) to exhibit its superior luster.
Sunstones range in color from colorless to pale yellow, soft pink, rusty orange, tan, red and deep teal green.
The world's most famous sunstone mines are in Oregon where a high copper content gives them their unique rusty orange color and extra sparkle. Oregon sunstone is indeed the most sought after and highly coveted of all sunstones. Therefore, the price is higher for this material.
This gemstone measures 11 x 6 mm and weighs 1.60 carats. That means you are getting this high quality Oregon sunstone for less than $17.00 per carat! I am able to offer it at such a low price because I purchased a parcel several years ago when the price was lower than it is currently.
Cut and faceted into a fancy marquise shape, often this particular cut fetches higher prices than other cuts because so much of the rough sunstone material is lost and wasted during the lapidary process but for those who love the unusual shape of the marquise, it is worth the extra money to acquire the rare cut.
It exhibits very nice clarity with very very few inclusions (seen only with a jeweler's loupe). It is almost always "eye clean" material.
This stone would make a wonderful ring (either in a horizontal or vertical orientation), a pendant, brooch or if you are a rockhound it is a must have for your personal gemstone collection.

Shipping & policies
My shipping rates are a flat fee of 4.50 for the first item and 0.99 for each additional item in the same order. This covers all the costs of envelopes, packaging material, handling fees and trips to the post office. Unfortunately, the USPS has raised their rates on ALL domestic and international packages by over 35 percent as of Thursday, January 31, 2018. I sincerely apologize for the shipping rate increase but is beyond my control.
If you are an INTERNATIONAL BUYER, please contact me prior to checkout so I can look up the correct postage for your particular country. Sometimes there are issues with the customs agency of your country, so expect that there might possibly be a delay in delivery of your item. Please note, once a package leaves the United States, there is nothing I can really do to find out exactly where your package might be. If there is an issue, please use the customs number I provided with your order and contact your country's customs agency to find out when you may expect to receive your item.
Additionally, for both domestic and international orders, please understand that I cannot be held responsible for incorrectly delivered packages, stolen packages or items lost by the United States post office or your country's postal service. In these cases, I will do my best to work with you to locate your package with the tracking number provided by USPS or in international shipping cases the customs number for your package. This also includes items being returned to me for refunds or exchanges as well.
Most of my jewelry is inexpensive so insurance is not necessary however some more expensive items, ie. emeralds, ruby, tanzanite, morganite and sapphires, & some of the vintage coins must be insured. PLEASE NOTE: Insurance and tracking fees have already been calculated in the shipping costs you see posted for any items requiring insurance. All items with a value over $100 will be insured for both the buyer's and seller's protection.

All the best!
All items purchased from my shop carry a 30 day warranty. Any item found to be damaged within 30 days of original receipt date will either be replaced (if possible) or a refund given for the full purchase price including shipping costs.
PLEASE NOTE: Items that are deemed to be damaged by improper handling or cleaning on the part of the purchaser are not covered under this warranty.
It is highly advised that you inspect your gemstone or jewelry piece very carefully immediately upon receipt because after the thirty day warranty period expires from the original receipt date, I cannot issue any refunds or exchanges for any purchase of any kind. This is in part due to the large number of attempted scams that force me to strictly adhere to this policy.
I have included some tips and pointers below to aid you in taking better care of your merchandise and specific cleaning techniques to help minimize potential damage occurring to your jewelry or gems.
Many of my gemstone jewelry items can be fragile if not protected from knocks and bumps due to their hardness scores on the Moh's scale. Care must be taken by the buyer to protect against damage especially rings as they are the type of jewelry most susceptible to damage and softer, more brittle gemstones, for example, opals and gemstones with lower Moh's numbers.
Care must also be taken when cleaning certain gemstones. Never use ANY harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaning on ANY items purchased from my shop. Using plain mild soap and warm water with an ultra soft toothbrush is the best cleaning method. This will help avoid damage to the gemstones used in creating some of my jewelry items and the gemstones themselves.
If you have any additional questions on how to take care of and protect your specific gemstone or jewelry piece, please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be more than happy to share my knowledge with you.
ENJOY YOUR PURCHASE!!!!
