Item details

This is a tutorial to teach you how to make fabric covers that slip right on the block. The finished covers will fit the 8 x 8 inch and 6 x 6 inch square glass blocks. This is not a tutorial on applying vinyl and not a finished item. Basic sewing skills are all that's needed to make the covers. Covers can be decorated as you like with heat transfer vinyl, stencils and paint or markers. You can even do an embroidery design on them. The blocks are available at Hobby Lobby and other craft supply stores. Add 20-35 string of mini-lights and ribbon or bow of your choice.

Since the design is put on the fabric cover and not the block itself you can change your design anytime you like. Put a different design on each side to make the block even more versatile. The fabric helps diffuse the light coming through giving the block a soft glow. The cover is open at the bottom making it very easy to slide it on the block and change lights if desired.

What a great gift idea: a block, string of lights and set of decorated covers for a wedding, new baby, teacher gift, for anyone.

Pictures above show the cover on the 8x8 and 6x6 inch blocks. Designs were done with heat transfer vinyl and the poinsettia block design was colored in with Spectra Noir pens. It gives the block a stained glass look when lit. It's even very pretty without the lights on.
