I sell Maine harvested porcupine quills. A little background on what happens. First, I harvest only road kills, fresh kills. Porcupines are nocturnal and I drive an 8 mile stretch of road twice every day which means if there is a dead Porky in the road, he is fresh. Next, there are hundreds and hundreds of quills on a Porky but not all are good for crafting. First, tail quills are fat but short. Quills from the hump to the nose are too thin, curved and unusable. There are no quills on the belly. Quills on the hump part of the body have the best quills but have the fewest quills. Now, if the porky is run over and hit by a tire on the hump part of the body a lot of good quills are lost.
I process each porky by removing all the usable quills with an artist's pair of pliers. I sort them into groups of sizes, wash with soap and water, dry and package into cellophane envelopes. This must be done because there is a lot of dirt, blood, body liquids and not washing them leaves a lot of unwanted fragrances. I also have to be careful because my little dog loves to try and get to Porky; however, a friend of mine spent $1150. getting quills removed from her dog! Please note: the barbs on the quills are NOT removed, so be careful and pay attention!!!
I sell these quills in three different packages, one inch plus to around two inches in length all with black tips. The second offering are quills with black tips and measure 1.5 inches to a little more than 2 inches. These are most popular. Lastly, each harvest produces quills up to three inches in length but have little or no black tips. See separate listings.
I sell these quills on a money-back guarantee. Once you receive your order, if you are not happy with the purchase for any reason there is a return address label in your package so just send them back to me. You have to pay the return postage.
If I can be of any assistance in helping you with your crafting please email, convo or whatever. Thanks for looking.
