This worsted weight 100% natural black and grey tweed alpaca yarn is amazingly soft and beautiful. It's made of fiber grown by our alpaca herd and locally milled in Oregon just a few miles away. Alpaca fiber is naturally lightweight yet softer, more durable and warmer than wool. Our alpacas are bred to produce fine, consistent fleece high on the comfort factor. The fiber is sorted and graded which again, makes for a significantly higher quality yarn. Alpaca is hypoallergenic. You may find bits of vegetation in this yarn, but it is easily picked out while knitting or crocheting. No harsh chemicals are used to dissolve the vegetation, as are in commercial yarn mills.
Alpacas are environmentally low footprint livestock, consuming 1/3 less grass than sheep, yet still producing the worlds strongest, finest and warmest natural animal fiber in the world.
