Cabochons are cut from natural stone unless stated in listing. Natural stone may have small vugs healed cracks or small pits that don't take away from the beauty of the stone. I will not sell a stone that is badly flawed. I try to point out any imperfections and price piece accordingly. Some stones have soft spots These are sometimes the hardest to polish and can undercut. Indian Paint and Leopard skin Jasper are two examples, but skilled cutters know how to minimalize undercutting, and when polished correctly can be some of the most beautiful stones. It's just a fact of life that the stones with the best designs often have the most imperfections. Plume agates , Brecciated jaspers, Moss agates to name a few can often have tiny pits, but can make very beautiful cabochons. Designer cabochons are cut from the best part of the slab and don't follow any standard size or shape, Measurements are taken at the widest points.
