This is a 1/2 inch replacement typewriter ribbon for any manual Olympia typewriter. It is sealed in a plastic sleeve and comes in a cardboard box.
This nylon typewriter ribbon comes in black and red, or all black ink on 2" plastic spools. The ribbon has two automatic reversing grommets that allow the ribbon to reverse direction once it reaches the end in machines with this feature. (Not all typewriters have this ability, but most do.)
PLEASE NOTE. The photos picture a ribbon with black and red ink. I'm currently waiting a new shipment of ribbons, and don't have any more of the black and red combo. If you want such a ribbon, please let me know. Otherwise, the ribbon I'll ship will be black only.
This replacement typewriter ribbon is suitable for Olympia typewriters, both standard and portable versions, as well as many other brands, including Smith Corona, Brother, Olivetti, Adler, Sears, Underwood, and more. It is a 1/2" ribbon with universal spools designed to fit almost all 1/2" ribbon machines,
PLEASE NOTE. The ribbon spools may not fit all Olympias. However, you can use the ribbon itself as a replacement, winding it on any pre-existing spools you might have.
**WINDING RIBBON ONTO PRE-EXISTING SPOOLS**
Even if you have a typewriter that will not accept these spools, the ribbon itself can be used in any machine that accepts 1/2" ribbon. If the spools do not fit you can use appropriately sized spools (the ones already on you machine) and wind the ribbon onto those. This is not a complicated process, but can be confusing, so please contact me if you need help with it.
If you are not sure if this ribbon will fit your typewriter, please contact me with any questions.

Shipping & policies
Unless otherwise agreed to or specified, I'll ship all typewriters via USPS, FedEx, or UPS at my discretion. I will use the method that is most economical for my buyers, and will ship to anywhere in the continental United States.
If you are located outside of the United States, please contact me before making a purchase. I can usually arrange shipping, but I don't want to make any promises I cannot keep.
As far as packaging goes, shipping typewriters is notoriously problematic for some people. Typewriters have heavy moving parts (the carriages) that can be easily damaged if not properly secured. I lock the carriages on all shipped typewriters if they have that feature, but I may also secure them with additional safety measures. I use a variety of techniques to make sure your machine gets to you in exactly the same condition it was in when I boxed it up.
Please be advised that some typewriters are very heavy, and can weigh 40 pounds or more. These heavier machines naturally have higher shipping costs associated with them.
I accept credit cards, PayPal, or Etsy gift cards. If you absolutely must have a machine and cannot pay me with either of these methods, please contact me so we can try to work out a solution. I know how strong the pull of a vintage manual typewriter can be, and I'll do my best to make sure I get your baby to you.
Returns & exchanges
- Custom or personalized orders
- Perishable products (like food or flowers)
- Digital downloads
- Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
Older machines can develop problems without notice, even if they're properly maintained and loved. I promise to accurately describe, photograph, or video any typewriter I sell. If you want additional photos or have questions about anything, all you have to do is ask. You can also inspect the machines in person if you are in the Kansas City area.
So, to make a long story short, I will accept most returns, but I do ask that you pay for return shipping. If your typewriter does not work as it should upon arrival, I'll accept a return unless it was sold as a display model. Also, if you do experience a problem, many times there is a simple repair that will solve it. I can often walk you through the repair so you don't have to send the typewriter back.
A lot of vintage stuff, especially typewriters, is beautiful and awesome. But I suppose you already knew that.
