Item details

This Little Bali Moon Charm in carved mother of pearl shell is a 15mm crescent bead drilled at one end with a 1mm hole for your finding.

These charms are predominantly white or ivory in colour, with good nacreous iridescence.

They're made for Indounik from the shell of cultivated stocks of the Pinctada Maxima mollusk, not wild harvested.

PayPal is my preferred method of payment.

You'll find double horn crescent beads here -

Size: Approx 15mm (L) x 13mm (W) at the span of the crescent - about 0.59in (L) x 0.51in (W)
Thickness: Approx 3mm
Weight: Approx 1 gram per bead
Pieces per pack: 1
Colour: Off-white or ivory
Material: Mother of pearl shell, also known as nacre, drilled at one end so you can attach a finding and have it hang like the moon. Please note that this shell is "budidaya" - the Indonesian word for "cultivated", not wild harvested.
Shipping: This item will ship from Bali, Indonesia, via registered post with a tracking number in a padded post pack to protect them, and the cost of the pack is included in the shipping fee. Please note that you will almost certainly need to sign for the package upon delivery, so please supply a shipping address that is convenient for that. I generally ship more quickly than the 3-5 days listed in my shipping profile.

Mekepung or bull races are held in the west Bali regency of Jembrana from July to October each year.

Madurese migrants introduced the sport to celebrate the end of the rice harvest, and it has become a tourist attraction for one of the least visited regencies on the Island of the Gods.

While I'm not a fan of the use of animals for this type of sport and have never actually seen one of these events, the races are said to be thrilling contests between teams of two young water buffalo harnessed to a chariot.

The chariot is ridden by a jockey who holds onto the bulls' tails as they career down a 2km race course, kicking up dust and sweat.

The water buffalo used in these races are said to be treated with great care, and are fed elaborate diets containing "all sorts of wonderful potions and secret ingredients".

Most of the races happen outside the regency capital of Negara, next to a river estuary in the location of Parancak.

“Don't take the bull by the horns, take him by the tail; then you can let go when you want to.” ~ American humorist Josh Billings.
