Item details

Organically grown seeds from my garden to yours. This is the rarer, "woolly" species of burdock. Important medicinal herb, all parts can be used. The leaves of all sizes can be dried, and then dipped in boiling water to use as a natural bandage or poultice. The seeds have a strengthening, tonic effect on the body and are best used as a tincture for acute problems. The most widely used part of this plant is the massive roots. They are harvested in fall after the first year of growth, best after a frost. The long roots can be eaten like any root vegetable and are pleasantly sweet, and very fortifying helping with chronic conditions. In the second year the plant will grow very tall and form lots of purple thistle flowers and prickly burrs, these were actually the inspiration for Velcro! I usually have a terrible black aphid population in my garden. This year, however, I let a massive burdock go to flower and it quickly became covered in the aphids, only to attract masses of ladybugs! The lady bugs made short work of those pests and many more.

Saved from natural, healthy garden grown plants. 100 seeds per pack.

only 3 seeds out of 15 germinated and those took over 3 weeks to do so. I don't know if these are difficult or old seed. I am pretty experienced at seed starting and growing including native plants.
