Item details

I have to admit that I've never been a big fan of 'Green Zebra' and was reluctant to try these for that reason. But boy am I ever glad that I took a chance. This variety has no relation to its namesake, and has what I think is a much better flavour profile. That's because, as the story goes, it was originally found by a gardener in a box of mixed cherry tomatoes from the Netherlands. The fruit is juicy with a very good sweet and tart flavour.

It has done exceptionally well for me in my Toronto garden, producing endless clusters of golf-ball sized fruits on a tall vine. And what a beauty! Another great addition to a colourful mixed variety summer salad. I had more fruit than we could eat fresh so I dehydrated slices and tossed the rest into batches of sauce.

Leave it on the vine to ripen to a deeper golden/amber colour.

Special Notes:

Indeterminate. Striped lime green and gold. Large cherry/saladette-sized fruit. Open-pollinated. Mid-season. 70-80 days.

No less than 20 seed per packet. [Please note that the number of seeds per package varies with each variety and is dependant on stock. Some varieties produce less seed than others so I adjust accordingly.]

Grown and harvested in the 2015 gardening season.

----------------------------------------

Growing:

Start seed indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Transplant outdoors after danger of frost has passed.

About My Seeds:

All of the seeds that I sell were lovingly homegrown and harvested by me, small scale, in my urban garden using organic methods only -- no chemicals or pesticides whatsoever. I only choose seed from the healthiest plants in my garden. Tomato varieties are isolated to stay true using the flower bagging method and I test yearly for germination quality. I take special care in choosing varieties that I find unusual, interesting and fabulous, and/or especially suitable for growing in small space gardens.
