Fragrant lemon scented leaves used in teas and salads. Lemon balm grows best in rich, moist, well-drained, slightly acidic to slightly alkaline soil. Prefers full sun, but will do well in partial shade. Average height is 15-30 inches and as wide. Mulch around base in areas that get below 0 degrees.
PERENNIAL in ZONES 3-10
To start indoors: Start your seeds 4-6 weeks before the last frost date in your area. Use a good seed starting medium such as Jiffy Mix. Fill seed flat with soil. Pre-moisten the soil and scatter the seeds lightly and evenly over the surface. DO NOT COVER. Seeds need light to germinate. Place in a warm location and keep moist (not wet) using a fine misting spray. Seeds will germinate in about 7 to 21 days. Transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Space plants at least 12 inches apart in full to part sun.
