Item details

Meniscus reader cut from a 1/2 inch thick crystal clear cast acrylic.

This reader is specifically designed to improve the accuracy of reading test measure and prover scale plates by: 1) ensuring that the reference line is perpendicular to the scale plate; 2) eliminating parallax by using perfectly aligned, precision laser engraved reference lines on both sides of the reader; and 3) attaching a black and white contrast plastic laminated card to the device so that it is always available to ensure that the bottom meniscus surface is properly illuminated. Instructions for use are engraved on the device and illustrated on the card. The vertical arm of the reader is 1 inch thick (two pieces of 1/2 inch thick cast acrylic pinned and solvent welded) to align against the reference edge of the scale plate. It can be used on a left or right scale plate simply by flipping the device over. The reference line on the horizontal section of the reader is laser engraved as a very thin line on the front and back of 1/2 inch thick cast acrylic arm. It is precisely aligned to prevent any parallax reading errors.

This reader is designed for laboratory use, but will work very well in field applications if protected from excessive exposure to petroleum products (gasoline, alcohols, and diesel fuel) and stored away from heat sources and direct sunlight. It has not been tested for discoloration with exposure to petroleum products and alcohols, but I welcome any motor fuel dispenser inspector or technician to try it out and provide feedback as to its field use durability.

This device also can be used to read any laboratory volumetric glassware by aligning the vertical edge against the neck of the graduated volumetric measure.
