+++The Children's Book Committee of Bank Street College of Education selected MAKING BOOKS WITH KIDS for their BEST CHILDREN'S BOOKS OF THE YEAR book++
I wrote Making Books With Kids. Dikko Faust hand-set wood and metal type for the cover and display type in the book at Purgatory Pie Press. I designed the book with Dikko and other collaborators who did the computer production. Dikko made paste papers for the end sheets. Wonderful book artists and children made books for the 25 projects. Jane Sanders drew the colorful illustrations and made many of the sample books.
The functional binding allows the book to open flat for easy access while you follow the directions. Flexibound, 144 Pages
Making Books with Kids is my 5th book. With more than 25 projects featuring design, pop-ups, book-binding, illustration, and decorating papers, this book is a great resource for friends, families, community groups, teachers, and everyone who works with children. These projects are a great way for children to practice planning, problem solving, math, and spatial reasoning, while enhancing literacy and learning, too.
Making Books with Kids uses bright, easy-to-follow illustrations to guide readers through step-by-step directions. Examples - some by children, others by prominent book artists - show how these easy book structures encourage each artist's personal style.
Whether you make these books just for fun or use Making Books with Kids to add life to an academic curriculum, you can make these projects over and over--with different and exciting results each time.
