One-of-a-Kind Antique Treen

Hand Carved Rolling Pin from Rural Pennsylvania

Living on a farm at the beginning of the 20th century required a lot of skills that went beyond farming. Knowing how to make everyday tools and utensils was a necessity. Wood was the most available material on most farms so buckets, bowls, and baskets were often hand crafted for daily use. Rolling pins carved out of one piece of wood were common until 2-piece machine turned pins became readily available. Sadly most of these pins were tossed or used for fire wood when a new pin was purchased. It's always exciting to find one that survived!

Absolutely unique rolling pin discovered in the barn of a small farm in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Made by hand and used for many, many years. It is unusual because it is made from a softer wood than most rolling pins so it is lighter than you would expect. The patina is amazing with the wood aging to a beautiful, warm color. What a wonderful way to add an authentic detail to any farmhouse kitchen! This pin has so much history and's really a primitive treasure!

Pin measures 18" long (including handles) x 2.25 wide

Condition is Antique Shabby with lots of wear from years of use. Lots of marks and variations in the wood, but the surface is very smooth. Holes in handles go all the way through if you would like to hang it. There is a hole at the top of one of the handles photo 4) that was probably made when they hand turned it.
