Item details

This listing is for a knitting pattern to make an demo placenta.

A knitted placenta like this is a useful educationnal tool for childbirth preparation classes, and health professionnals working with childbirth. It is anatomically correct, with a distinct foetal side with umbilical cord, artery and veins, a more chunky-looking maternal side, and an amniotic sac. The placenta and veins are made with red and blue yarn, the amniotic sac is made of a sheer white fabric that closes with a drawstring, and the umbilical cord features a press stud at the tip. It is the size of an average placenta, and is to be filled with fabric scraps and/or polyester filling for fullness and weight. The cord is approximately 50cms long.

The pattern features lots of construction photos and detailed instructions. Instructions are also provided for a simpler placenta with no amniotic sac.

The pattern is billingual, so the instructions in english are in black and the instructions in french are in red.

This is a PDF download pattern. Once your payment has been received, you will recieve an instant download of the detailed 9 page pattern.

By ordering this item, you are encouraging a young doula to continue her work in birth education. I use an demo placenta just like this in my own prenatal classes.

If you want a finished product, I can make it for you. Here is the listing:
