This is a set of downloadable plans for a woodturning lathe. You can customize the length of this machine to your needs, and you can build a lathe capable of turning long pieces for a fraction of the cost of a commercial model.
You'll need a table saw, miter saw and drill press to make this lathe. The tool rest has one welded joint, which can be done by a local machine shop for a few dollars. You can bolt these parts together, but a weld is recommended.
Most of the parts can be purchased from McMaster Carr's website, and these plans include McMaster-Carr part numbers for your convenience.
This download includes:
- A complete parts list in PDF format and an HTML document that will take you right to product pages where you can order what you need
- Dimensioned CAD drawings of every part
- Step by step assembly animations and images
- Video presentations that walk you through the machining/drilling you'll need to do
There are several big files in these plans, so you'll download a PDF that contains a download link and password to all the content.
