This silver prayerbox from Yemen would have been made by a Jewish silversmith. It is in very good condition for its age, about 80 years old. I am guessing at good silver content, although not tested, it looks soft and not hard as low silver tends to look. I purchased it in Kenya 15 years ago from a Yemen man.
The kitab or prayerbox is small and chunky but in perfect proportions and is beautifully made with very small dents and dings, but nothing major. The loops at the top are not worn and will take a reasonable size chain. It does not open, but there may be prayers inside, prayers to keep one safe.
It has been in my collection for 15 years and I am hoping for another good home that will wear and enjoy it.
Size : 2 inches (5cm) across and 2.1/2 cm from top of bail to bottom of box.
