My wooden sewing cradle is collapsible and comes in a custom-sewn drawstring fabric bag for storage or travel and includes an insert sheet with the easy assembly instructions and care.
A sewing cradle, also called a punch cradle, is a trough-like structure used to accurately create holes in a book signature’s fold. For bookbinders making multi-signature books, a sewing cradle can ensure your holes will line up perfectly for stitching every time.
I WILL BE ON VACATION THIS WEEK. ALL ORDERS WILL SHIP ON SATURDAY JULY 21.
Measuring 4 ¾” tall x 7“ wide x 12” long when assembled, this cradle can hold up to a 10 ½” tall signature for hole placement.
I laser cut each piece from Birch 1/4" plywood and hand-finish each one with a water-based wood finish stain to enhance the wood grain. This cradle’s design allows the four pieces to slip together smoothly for use and slide apart and stack for travel. So handy for working in your home studio where space is at a premium or for traveling to bookbinding workshops!
Whether you are making a single-signature, pamphlet-style book or stacking multiple signatures for a Coptic-bound book, our unique sewing cradle will give you the ‘third hand’ you need for bookbinding success!
Feel free to convo me with any questions about the cradle and its use!
