In 2010 I spent several months painting round and square rings and links. Using "Painstaking Exuberance," I drew each link with a pencil, painted each link with Davy's Gray (a light gray watercolor) to set the rings, then filled in the tiny spaces with watercolor, painted all the lines again to make solid borders, and, finally, sometimes painted a border for each image.

Each painting was a step toward precision, toward comfort with double and triple-zero brushes (very tiny), and an unabashed wallow in the brightest colors that I could make with watercolor. Bright watercolors: lots of pigment, not a lot of water.

As I began to create coloring pages, I have been able to look back at all of the abstract paintings that I've made, and created pages for you to color based on those paintings.

The three images above are the coloring page, my work-in-progress on the coloring page, and an image of a painting called "Long Rings 2010," the inspiration.
