Item details

This Mini Double Horn carved black horn crescent bead is a 20mm double drilled version of one of my most popular bead designs.

This small but potent bead is carved both sides with a smooth curved surface.

It's drilled near either end of the horns with a 1mm hole, making it ideal for crafting boho summer festival bracelets or anklets. Please scroll through my photos for more views and to better see the hole placement.

Please note that this listing is for one piece only, and that this bead is not considered water-safe.

You'll find other double horn listings here, including other sizes drilled in the same way as the one in this listing -

Size: Approx 20mm (L) x 20mm (W) - about 0.78in (L) x 0.78 in (W)
Thickness: Approx 4-5mm - 0.19 in
Weight: Less than 1 gram
Pieces per pack: 1
Colour: Black, very occasionally with lighter flecks though the ones you see in my photos are more likely to be reflections off the shiny surface of the beads.
Material: Bovine horn, double drilled, as shown in my photos, with a 1mm hole. This material is from the domestic water buffalo, Bubalis bubalis, a bovine animal similar to the cow, used throughout Asia as a plough animal in the rice paddies that produce the staple food of this part of the world. The material used in Indounik products is sourced in Indonesia and the animals are not harmed for their bone or horn to be used in human ornamentation. It is a bi-product of animals that have come to the end of their life after being used for work and food - milk and sometimes meat.
Shipping: This item will be shipped from Bali, Indonesia, via registered post with a tracking number in a padded post pack to protect it, and the cost of the pack is included in the shipping fee. Please note that you will almost certainly need to sign for the package upon delivery, so please supply a shipping address that is convenient for that. I generally ship more quickly than the 3-5 days listed in my shipping profile.

Mekepung or bull races are held in the west Bali regency of Jembrana from July to October each year.

Madurese migrants introduced the sport to celebrate the end of the rice harvest, and it has become a tourist attraction for one of the least visited regencies on the Island of the Gods.

While I'm not a fan of the use of animals for this type of sport and have never actually seen one of these events, the races are said to be thrilling contests between teams of two young water buffalo harnessed to a chariot.

The chariot is ridden by a jockey who holds onto the bulls' tails as they career down a 2km race course, kicking up dust and sweat.

The water buffalo used in these races are said to be treated with great care, and are fed elaborate diets containing "all sorts of wonderful potions and secret ingredients".

Most of the races happen outside the regency capital of Negara, next to a river estuary in the location of Parancak.

“Don't take the bull by the horns, take him by the tail; then you can let go when you want to.” ~ American humorist Josh Billings.

Average review
A little smaller than anticipated, but totally worth it. This works wonderfully with my casting set. The spares are very much appreciated in case it breaks in casting. But the tips have worn down a tiny bit with no hint of breakage. Thank you so much for these pieces!
