Gepetto was designed and sculpted by Marie Schmidt in her Durakai Fiber Arts Studio. The Gepetto pattern provides step by step instructions for how to construct the marionette from your choice of materials. You can needle felt Gepetto from your colored wool. His jointed arms and legs are supported by an internal corded structure. His marionette mechanism is fashioned from a wooden handle with nylon marionette strings. Instructions for constructing this mechanism are also included. While he is a workable marionette, the texture of his woolen limbs does inhibit his movement. He would best be displayed as an art object, either hanging from the ceiling or on a wall mount, much as the marionettes in Venice, Italy are displayed. This Gepetto is 15" tall, when hanging from his mechanism the art piece is 25" in height. You can use the pattern as a guide to make a marionette in a size that you like.
