This lovely shawl mixes a simple, lovely lace pattern with a blending of colors using yarns of varying colors and color ways. This triangular shawl’s final shawl size is approximately 66” across the neck edge and 34” down the center back after blocking. The lace pattern is predominantly a 10 stitch, 10 row repeat with a final edge pattern along the lower edge of the shawl body and a lace edging that is worked across the bottom as the body stitches are ‘cast off’. The color changes are worked across the different rows while working the lace pattern. In this pattern all the lace patterns are graphed for those who read graphs. They are also written out for those who do not. The lace edging along the bottom of the shawl includes an optional beading within the pattern which adds a special touch to the finished garment. Guidelines are included to show how the color changes have been worked into the shawl. They can be followed exactly or used as a template for your own color changes.
This pattern requires approx. 1800 – 2000 yards of sock\/fingering weight yarn, size 3 (3.25 mm) knitting needles, a stitch marker, and a yarn needle to run the ends in. The shawl shown was done with six skeins of Cherry Tree Hill SuperSock yarn in six different color ways (three are solid colors and three are varigated).
Stitches include knit, purl, yarn over, slip 1 stitch, knit two together, ‘slip 1 – knit 1 – pass slipped stitch over’, and ‘slip 1- knit two together – pass slipped stitch over’ as well as variants based on the last two.
