These vintage nostepinnes are spindles from old textile factories. A nostepinne is a tool used to wind a center-pull yarn ball. A nostepinne is a portable, easy to use and inexpensive way to create a center-pull ball without changing the twist of the yarn.
This listing is for 1 nostepinne similar to what is pictured. The length is 8-10". Each one is unique and has writing on it showing its history and many are dated as well. There are nicks and dents shown from its previous life. Each nostepinne has been conditioned and waxed for a smooth feel and beautiful finish. Enjoy using a piece of history along with your yarn project!
Although this Nostepinne is lovely to look at, it is not really designed for the purpose of hand winding a center pull ball of yarn, and is pretty much useless. Its original purpose was to hold yarn, hence the raised ridges. I'm sure it did an excellent job, because I can't get a ball of yarn I've wound off of it because of those ridges. The other two color options seem to be smoother, or to have recessed ridges rather than raised ones so they would work better as Nostepinne.
