Item details

These double horn or crescent moon flat beads are a generous 27mm in size to show off the extraordinarily beautiful hues of the shells from which they came.

Some feature irridescent blue, violet, and green. Others are more subtle with pastel shades of pink and pale green. Of course, the colours change in different light situations, and with movement.

They're about 1mm thick and cut in such a way that makes them best suited to bezel setting, electroplating or bead embroidery.

Please scroll through my photos and look closely at the cut edges which are not always perfectly uniform. Hover the cursor over the main listing photo and click the left or right arrow to see the different images.

They have a shiny surface on the front but the underside is sometimes more rough in texture like the piece shown in the middle of my main listing photo.

They're not drilled. If you want to drill them yourself, please note that dust created by drilling abalone shell is dangerous; you need to wear a mask to avoid inhaling the particles. The polished pieces are otherwise perfectly safe to wear.

Whether you use them in a choker or necklace, as earrings, a cuff, or a barrette, they're sure to draw attention. They're also flat enough to use on a scrapbook page.

Really, they have diverse application to match the diversity of their colours. Each one is truly unique.

Please note that this listing is for one piece only, and may not be one of the ones shown in my stock photos.

PayPal is my preferred method of payment.

BACK STORY
Mekepung or bull races are held in the west Bali regency of Jembrana from July to October each year.

Madurese migrants introduced the sport to celebrate the end of the rice harvest, and it has become a tourist attraction for one of the least visited regencies on the Island of the Gods.

While I'm not a fan of the use of animals for this type of sport and have never actually seen one of these events, the races are said to be thrilling contests between teams of two young water buffalo harnessed to a chariot.

The chariot is ridden by a jockey who holds onto the bulls' tails as they career down a 2km race course, kicking up dust and sweat.

The water buffalo used in these races are said to be treated with great care, and are fed elaborate diets containing "all sorts of wonderful potions and secret ingredients".

Most of the races happen outside the regency capital of Negara, next to a river estuary in the location of Parancak.

I just love to buy at this shop. The owner is so kind and the products are beautiful and of high Quality! She chose the most beautiful colors for me! She even included extra pieces for me together with an Incense stick from Bali and a long handwritten postcard. Very happy with my purchase and her customer service, like always!
