A typical Viking fire striker, also called fire hitter, hand forged according to an original find of the Viking period from Björkö in the Swedish lake Malaren.
The Boat shape of this fire striker is very typical of the Viking period, but fire hitters of this kind, however, were also in use among the Germans, Slavs and in the Middle Ages.
The fire hitter is forged from carbon-iron and has the dimensions 10 x 4 x 0.5 cm.
The Viking fire striker has a very good quality and are produce particularly easily spark. Together with the appropriate tinder material, it's quite easy to start a fire.
The fire steel is sufficiently large that a man can insert his fingers into the fire steel - so they are well protected from the sharp flint edge.
With dry tinder, flint and a certain dose of exercise by uniformly beating of the fire steel in short time a fire can be produced. As tinder for the fire hitter there is suitable dried birch sponge mushroom, cattails and fine birch paper, as well as dry, dead wood.
