FAQs

In general, no. Stainless steel is designed for strength and durability, with its high resistance to corrosion being one of its primary attributes, and nickel is a key element in the alloy that helps provide this. Although stainless steel can be made without nickel, it is fairly uncommon, and most stainless steel will contain between 8% - 12% nickel (the higher the grade, on average the higher the nickel content).

This will also contain nickel - in fact, stainless steel can't be classed as a surgical grade without it. 'Surgical' steel is actually more of a trade name for stainless steel of particular grades (also known as 'marine grade' steel). The most common available 'surgical' grades are 316 and 316L (the L is to indicate a lower carbon content). This grade of steel is designed to have the highest resistance to corrosion, therefore it also tends to have a higher nickel content (up to 12%).

Technically, stainless steel can qualify as hypoallergenic (meaning: low risk of causing an allergic reaction), as although nickel is one of the most common causes of allergic reactions from jewellery, it is bonded to other elements in the alloy and generally won't leech on to the skin. However, some people with a high sensitivity to nickel can still have a reaction to stainless steel, so I do not personally classify it as hypoallergenic.

I offer products in a range of different grades, but the most common is 304. I also have products in 201, 202, 316 and 316L grades - you'll find the grade for each item is listed at the very top of every description, so you can make an informed decision about the products.

Each grade of steel has differences between the elements used to make them. 201 grade steel has a lower nickel and higher manganese content, it is also harder and stronger. Products in the store that are often made from 201 steel include thin filigree stampings, and some of the blank tags. 304 grade steel is a versatile and general purpose steel, and is widely used for many products - most of the items I currently sell are made with this grade. It will contain an average of 8% nickel, and provides all of the most desired attributes for stainless steel. 316 grade steel is very similar to 304, but molybdenum is added to increase the metal's resistance to corrosion, particularly due to salt water or chlorine exposure.

Shipping to
Zip or postal code

I ship items each week day, and will process most orders within 24 hours (except on weekends and public holidays).

Please note that I am unable to post to Parcel Locker or Parcel Collect addresses within Australia, as most of my packages are not deemed deliverable to them (PO Box addresses can still be used). If a Parcel Locker or Collect address is provided, your order may be cancelled.

Shipping is via standard Australia Post services (air mail for international orders). Any shipping overages in excess of AUD$1.00 (after shipping and packaging costs) will be refunded. Occasionally, multiple items may be shipped in separate packages - I will send advice if this occurs.

Upgrades, such as registered or express, can be arranged by request. At my discretion, some packages may be upgraded to registered shipping (at no additional cost to the buyer).

Please note that customs duties and import charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost and may be payable before delivery of your order. These charges are levied by local customs offices and are the buyer's responsibility. I advise checking with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to making a purchase.

Shipping time within Australia is typically 2-5 business days to major cities, and up to 15 business days to remote areas.

International shipping times can vary between 1-6 weeks, with an average of 3 weeks - please allow at least 4 weeks.

Payments

Payment can be made via direct checkout (credit cards, Esty Gift cards) or PayPal.

You can request to cancel an order for any reason prior to shipment, and the full payment will be refunded. In some cases, an order can be shipped within a few hours of purchase, so if a cancellation is required, it is important to let me know as soon as possible, as I won't be able to do so once an order is shipped (the items can still be returned under my return policy).

In some cases, including, but not limited to, where I can not confirm important information that is required, I may decline and cancel an order, in which case the full payment will be refunded.

Returns & exchanges
I gladly accept returns, exchanges, and cancellations
Contact me within: 14 days of delivery
Ship items back within: 21 days of delivery

Conditions of return
Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value.
Questions about your order?
Please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
Additional return information
Returns for any reason are accepted within 14 days of the buyer receiving the item, and a refund equal to the amount of the item price can be provided once the item is received back in the same condition as when sent - original and return postage costs won't be refunded.

If an item is not delivered due to an incorrect address being provided, or refused due to customs charges, a refund of the item price only can be provided once the item has been received back.

If an item is lost in the mail, faulty or does not match the description, please contact me directly for the most appropriate resolution. Depending on individual circumstances, either a refund, exchange or replacement will be provided free of charge (any costs that may be incurred by the buyer to return a faulty item will be reimbursed).

Additional policies

Please note that for environmental reasons, I do not include printed invoices with orders unless requested, or required by the destination country's customs office.

I am not currently offering wholesale, but am happy to arrange custom orders for alternative quantities of single or multiple items.
