This is a lovely lace trimmed pincushion from the 1900's, covered with a fine lace and edged with a wide lace trim. The base is a pale blue, almost aqua, which looks and feels suspiciously like silk. The lace is a soft ecru. There is a small mend on the back, a couple of small rust dots on the front. Personally, I think it adds to it's charm.
Nowadays you stick your pins into a generic tomato. I don't know where the tomato idea comes from, but this pincushion certainly is much more visually appealing. I test pinned it and it works well.( I love my job!)
It is also a great shabby chic prop and would make a great base for a jewelry display, or a vintage sewing vignette.
This is no wimp of a pincushion. It measures 12 by 4 with the lace trim adding three inches all around.
What goes around comes around. Love of quality and beauty from the past is happiness.
