This is a gigantic size Ametrine gemstone being an inch and a half long. The orientation of color is excellent, mixing the purple and yellow bi-color together to give the stone flashes of a pinkish lavender color as well as flashes of mandarin orange. Ametrine is a naturally occurring purple and yellow bi-color variety of Quartz that is formed by a unique twin law ("Brazil Law Twinning") where two separate individually colored crystals are intergrown to form an alternating "radiation" pattern of purple (Amethyst) and yellow (Citrine) triangles when viewed down the c axis. The two colors are oriented based upon their position inside the crystal to create the famous bicolor gemstones. This stone certainly looks nice in the hand as is particularly because the color stands out so beautifully. Also, it is large enough to be a paper weight, imagine this sitting on the side of your text book every day! Enjoy!
