I designed The Taylor Vest for my 18 month old son to wear to an outside Autumn wedding. I wanted a light and cool outfit with a vintage feel, and combined it with linen trousers and a loose-fitting shirt (patterns for these sold separately).
This is a versatile pattern- it is easy to omit the collar or ties or jazz it up with your choice of buttons, buckles and other embellishments. I have shown a funky African wax print version as well as a formal silk brocade and satin version to give examples of what you can do.
As with any children’s patterns that don’t require much fabric, it is a great opportunity to use up fabric scraps or recycle adult garments into a new life. Think about using men’s shirts or suit jackets or women’s formal-wear to make a gorgeous vest for your little one.
The best feature of this pattern is that it is fully-lined- you don't need an over-locker and you will still have a perfect neat finish!!
