These are gorgeous hand carved bone (bovine, cow) pendants with designs made by the Batik method. The colors are cream and very dark brown/black.
This listing is for the matched set shown in the FIRST and SECOND pictures. They measure 52mm x 18mm. The thickness is 4mm. The holes are 2mm. The design is a SPOTTED brown/black design. The back is all dark brown/black.
What a great companion to any of your other natural bead choices! A great companion to African Trade bead designs, also.
The word batik originates from the Javanese tik and means to dot. To make a batik, selected areas are blocked out by brushing or drawing hot wax over them, and the bone is then dyed. The parts covered in wax resist the dye and remain the original color.
