This woven floral silk blend fabric is simply luminous! The pattern is reminiscent of large-scale motifs found early in the 18th century. Alternating stripes of red and gold satin are met with white serpentine flowers. The sheen on the satin face reflects the light beautifully, and the flowers are woven, not embroidered. This is a silk blend, likely silk and cotton or silk and rayon. It is a medium weight with a sturdy hand and measures 54" wide.
This gorgeous fabric would make a gorgeous early- to mid-18th century costume, like a robe volante or a piemontaise. Or, see how reminiscent this is in style to the 1750s robe a la francaise from Kent State University Museum (last picture).
This listing is for one piece measuring 6.5 continuous yards. This fabric will be shipped folded in a USPS large flat rate box (domestic).
This fabric was rescued from a warehouse in the New York City garment district; it does not come directly from the manufacturer. All fabrics are sold as-is; they are inspected before listing, and if flaws are considerable enough to affect their use, they will be noted in the listing and priced accordingly. Otherwise, please understand that light soiling, the smell of "old fabric", or slight irregularities are not to be considered defects, but part of the patina that gives these vintage items their charm.
