At last! Here it is. A freeform peyote stitch pattern for swallowtail butterfly wing earrings. This is only a pattern, not a tutorial, but I will include some helpful information right here:
Start this at the widest point (near the middle of the wing) and work up or down, using peyote stitch edge decreases. Then finish the other end working away from the middle, again using edge decreases. The reason is edge decreases are much easier than edge increases.
The finished beadwork will be approximately 1.6 inches wide and 3.5 inches long. Life size!
14 bead colors: Delica size 11 cylinder beads. I highly suggest you choose your own colors rather than following the pattern to the letter. For butterfly wings I prefer the following types of Delicas: silver lined, opaque, opaque pearl, metallic, and AB finishes. I avoid transparent and satin Delicas because they mess with light reflection too much.
Included in the download is a bead legend, a bead graph, and an illustration of the finished piece. There will only be one wing. Just make it twice. It's reversible!
Please do not copy, sell, or give away this pattern. However, please feel free to sell earrings you make with it.
