Ski Frames accentuate your winter photos or artwork in a way that factory manufactured frames cannot. In addition to color and texture, actual skis evoke the many memories of the experience. The skis used in this frame were Rossignol's with hints of blue, lavender, mauve, and gray. This frame measures 23" x 17" from the outside and can accommodate an 18" x 12" matting or photograph. This frame complements a black and white, landscape oriented, photo very well.
Artist/Designer/Assembler Comment: This handmade frame was made from a used set of downhill skis. The skis in this frame bear the marks and scratches associated with skiing. Alpine or Downhill Skis, especially parabolic skis, were not designed for straight line use as typically expected in a picture frame. In more direct terms, the Ski Frame is not a perfectly rectangular frame. The combination of plastic, fiberglass, graphite, wood, and hardened steel construction materials within the skis add additional challenges to find and manufacture the frame within a set of skis. Lastly, their varying thickness from tip to tail, non-linear edges, and graphics placement on the ski surface make each Ski Frame's construction unique. It is my opinion that these "imperfections" add context to the artwork the frame surrounds.
