Welcome to the etsy home of Fiber Artist Supply Company! We're a small manufacturer of handcrafted knitting and weaving supplies located in Cincinnati, OH. Founded in 2007 in Chicago, IL, we have been working hard ever since to bring high-quality, yet reasonably priced solid hardwood supplies to our customers.
Our niddy noddy kit represents the convergence of solid American workmanship and a value price. A hardware assembly utilizing threaded inserts and a thumb screw hold the smooth 3/4" thick hard maple cross beam onto the sturdy yellow birch end pieces. Other similarly priced niddy noddys use friction between wood pieces to hold the item together, leading to tight or loose fits as the seasons change or the item is used. This kit includes 1 hard maple cross beams, allowing users to make 1 yard skeins.
The niddy noddy is a great tool for making skeins from yarn. To wrap, simply take the yarn over the left end of the top crossbar, down and under the right side of the lower crossbar, up and over the left end of the top crossbar, and then back down and under the right end of the lower crossbar. Sounds confusing, but one usually picks up the rhythm in just a few passes. Wound skeins slide easily from the smooth sloped end pieces.
The top whorl drop spindle from the Fiber Artist Supply Co. is very popular among spinning instructors in search of an inexpensive beginner spindle. The conical shape of the whorl puts most of the weight along the perimeter, helping the spindle spin longer and stay more stable. A notch in the whorl helps keep your spun yarn in place. Both the whorl and the shaft are custom crafted from lacquered beech and hard maple. The spindle is 10" long, rounded on both tips, has a 2.5" whorl, and weighs 1.8 ounces.
I needed a niddy noddy and was happy to see that this was made in the USA and came with a spindle. The Niddy Noddy makes small elegant skeins and can be loosened and stored flat, which is great. I like the spindle that came with this more than the one I already owned! Good quality product. I will probably order a large Niddy Noddy eventually so I can make larger skeins. Very happy with my purchase!

This arrived on time and was carefully packed. The spindle is nicely balanced and easy to use. The niddy noddy was easy to assemble. There were no directions, but it was pretty obvious. I did manage to put one of the screw inserts backward ( I wasn't paying attention). Be sure the side that can hold a screwdriver is OUT, it won't work the other way. You don't need any tools to assemble it. As I don't yet have a lot of yarn spun, the one yard size is just perfect for me. Many thanks !!!
