Item details

There are three varieties of rebud native to Texas. The Mexican Redbud is possibly the prettiest, it is most certainly the most drought tolerant of the three….sailing through consecutive drought summers here at home of 100+ days of 100+temps and no rain--without damage.

THIS TREE PICTURED was a 4” SEEDLING that volunteered itself in a pot of daylilies 9 years ago when I planted it in my landscape. It has been pruned back to keep it up, out of the street and off the fire hydrant for the last 5 years.

The Mexican Redbud is the daintier littlest sister of the Texas redbuds. It ranges throughout central Texas, growing wild to west of the Pecos River and south into Nuevo Leon in northeast Mexico. It loves hilly to mountainous areas, doing very well in very poor, alkaline soils—but it thrives in a wide variety of soils, and is a great choice for small spaces, urban gardens, bonsais or potted decorative trees.

MATURE HEIGHT—12 TO 20 FT., in the ground, reaching larger sizes in
more southern zones
DIFFICULTY—VERY EASY ONCE ESTABLISHED…germination times can be variable, patience is a PLUS.

The Mexican Redbud grows as a gracfully arching multi-trunked tree, bursting into vibrant rose purple color early in the spring before leaves emerge.

Great as an accent tree, or kept pruned as a large shrub….It does very well in full sun, but makes a fabulous understory tree, tolerating a good deal of shade. I’ve seen them twine themselves beautifully up through large oaks.

Distinctive features that set it apart from the other girls, are its beautiful, shiny, green, green leaves that are very distinctly ruffled around the edges.....and the millions of blossoms are followed by showy coppery/burgundy/rust colored seed pods that hang on throughout the summer. Autumn foliage is also exceptional in the Mexican Redbud, glistening gold, reminiscent of quaking aspen.

We ship the same or next day after payment clears, unless other arrangements are made.

We love the United States Postal Service for shipping. We will be glad to offer you whatever level of USPS service you prefer or require, from economy to express...with the exception of live plants.

Live plants will ship on Mondays and Tuesdays, only, by Priority Mail, at the minimum, so they arrive in viable, healthy condition.

We also have ready access to UPS and FedEx, and will certainly use either of those services, if that is the preference of our customer.

Larger and heavier packages, however, are shipped FedEx Ground, which generally means they arrive in 3 to 5 business days.

Larger and higher priced orders will be insured. We do not like the idea of either our customer or the Studio taking a loss for damages incurred in transit.

If your goods need to be delivered outside the continental US, please contact us and let us get you a shipping quote.

All our prices are posted in US dollars (USD).

PayPal is our default method of payment. We can also accept credit cards and are perfectly willing to discuss other modes of transferring funds.

Payment is due at checkout. Custom contracts require a 50% down payment to initiate, once agreement has been reached regarding designs and costs. We will supply email updates regarding the progress of work at its various stages, with a final update and invoice for the balance due at completion of the work. Balances must be satisfied before orders are shipped. Works with balances due for longer than 7 days will be "put on the shelves" and made available to everyone as part of the Studio's inventory.

Returns & exchanges

Honestly, this has never happened to me, but I must address the possibility. I do love a happy customer.

If you find you are truly unhappy with your purchase--it doesn't match the description, color, size, condition, quality, or you were shipped the wrong item entirely--we will accept the return of unused/unworn/unaltered items--just notify us within 14 days after delivery. Refund or exchange for equal value of full purchase price will be made upon the return of merchandise.

All return shipping/insurance fees are the customer's responsibility.

Additional policies

Custom, Made to Order sales are FINAL. We work hard to please our customers before work even begins and keep them happy and apprised during the process to completion. Down payments for custom orders that remain unpaid are not refundable.
