Seahorses Raw Edge PDF Pattern with hand beading, by Debora Konchinsky, Critter Pattern Works
This is a digital file
This quilt is an experiment in hand beading and raw edge stitching with a little hand embroidery for the sea weeds. The pattern has complete instructions, and full sized drawings of the seahorses. All rhe seahorses are cut from cotton fabric with fusible on the reverse side, which are ironed onto the backgrounds. The central seahorse is totally covered with blue and green round beads and bugle beads. I tried to simulate the design of the texture. The seahorse in the third photo has just the high points of that texture in beads and he is swimming in front of a beaded coral. The weedy seadragon is in the next photo. He just has a few beads for detail. The last photo has a simple seahorse in raw edge stitching (straight stitching using the darning foot allowing you to stitch in any direction with the feed dogs working). My instructions assume you have never done any of these techniques before so they are very detailed. If you have never quilted before, go to my website:www.critterpat.com to watch the six videos I made, showing all the steps to making one of my quilts from start to finish. The seaweeds are added last to fill in some areas in feather stitching, using pearl cotton.
My quilt is 26" x 28", but yours could be any size because you control where you want to place the seahorses on your quilt top and how many times you use each of them. You could also combine this quilt pattern's designs with others in my range to make a really large quilt which is uniquely yours. Tropical Fish would be a fun one to work with the Seahorses.
