This listing is for 10g of silk hankies or mawata, kettle dyed by me in a range of shades of sweet pink, lilac and periwinkle blue. It's so sweet, I just had to call it Candy.
Silk hankies take dye beautifully and these silk hankies are no exception. The colours are beautiful and rich. These silk hankies can be spun on spindle or wheel, pulled into a thread and knitted up as is or used in nuno felted pieces or mixed media work. They can even be used in papermaking. The sky's the limit!
Silk hankies or mawata are an acquired spinning taste - once you acquire it, there's no going back. They are created from silk cocoons which are stretched over a wooden frame to form delicate but strong squares of gorgeously soft silk fibre. Each 10g of hankies is made up of multiple squares of cocoons stacked together into a pile of deliciousness!
One tip for working with these silk hankies - exfoliate and moisturise your hands before you go anywhere near them to avoid snagging your skin on the delicate fibre.
Happy Spinning and Felting!
