Vintage 1950s Girl's / Ladies' Costume Sewing Pattern Butterick 6343 Size 10-12 New FF
Pattern and instructions for vintage Butterick 6343 girl's (or ladies) SHEIK, JAPANESE GIRL AND WITCH COSTUMES: Costumes that make a "hit". (A) Witch wears pointed hat and a robe with contrasting decorations. (B) Fiery sheik wears a sleeveless over-robe, draped head piece and long sleeved robe. (C) Japanese robe with "obi".
Pattern is new, unused / uncut and was apparently in factory-folded (FF) condition before it was unfolded to confirm all pieces were uncut and accounted for. This was done because the envelope is in very poor condition and the pattern seemed quite thick as though it had been cut apart or incorrectly refolded after use, but the instructions and pattern pieces are 100% intact.
This design is marked for a girl's Size 10-12 which is listed as a 30" Breast and a finished length from back of neck to lower edge (no hem) of 49" though I would not be concerned with the sizing if the style and shape are right for your project. There are an endless number of websites and blogs offering step-by-step instructions on how to accurately resize vintage sewing patterns for the perfect fit.
Although the exact date of this pattern is unknown, the evolution of Butterick's method of sizing their patterns places it between 1956 and 1966.
