Item details

This Longhorn Crescent Bead Duo can be used together in one pendant, or to make two pendants in different sizes for layering, or maybe even for a mama and mini me set.

These two pieces - one 50mm long and the other 30mm - are a short, stubby version of the double horn bead, and were crafted in Bali, Indonesia, from carved bone.

They've each been drilled top to bottom through the mid-section with a 1mm hole that you'll see better if you scroll through my photos.

Please see their specifications below.

PayPal is my preferred method of payment.

Mekepung or bull races are held in the west Bali regency of Jembrana from July to October each year.

Madurese migrants introduced the sport to celebrate the end of the rice harvest, and it has become a tourist attraction for one of the least visited regencies on the Island of the Gods.

While I'm not a fan of the use of animals for this type of sport and have never actually seen one of these events, the races are said to be thrilling contests between teams of two young water buffalo harnessed to a chariot.

The chariot is ridden by a jockey who holds onto the bulls' tails as they career down a 2km race course, kicking up dust and sweat.

The water buffalo used in these races are said to be treated with great care, and are fed elaborate diets containing "all sorts of wonderful potions and secret ingredients".

Most of the races happen outside the regency capital of Negara, next to a river estuary in the location of Parancak.

“Don't take the bull by the horns, take him by the tail; then you can let go when you want to.” ~ American humorist Josh Billings.
