FAQs

Non-Commercial means any purpose that is NOT used for business or to promote a business *and* is not for profit. For example, if you’re creating party invitations for friends and family, or you’re creating a poster for a charity or a non-profit organisation, it’s Non-Commercial. But if you’re a designer and those same invitations you made for your friends, at no cost, were so awesome you used them in your business portfolio. Then it becomes a Commercial purpose. You’ll need an Extended Licence to use them in this way.

Commercial means any purpose that is used for business, or as an effort to increase clientele or sales with the purpose of making a profit. Here are some unique examples that you might not have thought, would be Commercial: - You use a pattern to create a free product as a marketing effort for your business - You’re an employee and you use a pattern to create an end product that will not be sold but still used in the business - You’re an employee and you purchased (out of your pocket), a pattern to be used in a PowerPoint template that will be presented to your co-workers

If you purchased one of my PowerPoint templates, you will have the pattern already embedded in it. You will not need to purchase an Extended Licence (even if you use it for commercial purposes). However, if you would like to edit the template, using a different pattern for use in business, then you will be required to purchase an Extended Licence.

You’ll only need to purchase a licence if you’re using the pattern for Commercial purposes. In this case, you’d purchase the pattern, plus an Extended Licence. If you’re using the pattern for Non-Commercial purposes (this is called a Standard Licence), it is included in the price of the pattern.

No, you don’t. Charities and non-profit organisations are covered in the Standard Licence. You only need to purchase the pattern and you’re good to go.

Only if you are transferring the ownership of your business to an individual or another business. Otherwise, you’re not allowed to do so.

There’s no need to add anything else to your design, but your end product must not be similar to the one you’re purchasing from Kellian Designs. For example, you can print a pattern onto fabric, sell the fabric or make something with the fabric, and sell that. You can print it onto a mug, a can, an invitation or anything at all, by itself. But you must not sell it as a digital paper (digitally or print), as a swatch or as a digital background. Instead, make something uniquely distinguishable with it or use it as an accent. This goes for both Non-Commercial and Commercial purposes.

You can use the patterns to create your own design on these sites for both Non-Commercial and Commercial purposes. However, you will need an Extended Licence if it’s Commercial.

Yes, you can. But you have the responsibility of indicating to your designer that the pattern is not free to use for any other purpose other than designing your artwork. So, they are not allowed to use it for their own purposes, unless they have bought a licence to do so. You are responsible for ensuring that they delete the files off their system once they are through with them.

If you’re sending files to your client, it should be a flattened final product. This means, no files which has the pattern embedded within them, so that a third party or end user can use them at liberty.
